Wedding Registries

Wedding Registries

Sep 25

Working in the mall [and being female] had prepared me for the exciting task of registering for wedding gifts. Even with all my planning, I still hadn’t decided all the places that we should go when it came time to scan what we’d want/need for our lives together. Initially, I was going to take David to JCPenney to pick out some reasonably priced towels. However, their recent restructuring made the idea unappealing. Besides, towels were the only thing we’d intended to get from there anyway. Macy’s was an obvious choice, because they have everything. I used to work at Macy’s, so I already had a pretty good lay of the land. David and I went in one night, sat down for an obnoxiously long time setting the registry up, and then we started scanning!! David was in charge of the scanner, since I imagine that was the only interesting part of the experience for him…ha! But really, it was a great time for both of us. It was fun to pick out things we’d use for years and years. The next major registry was Bed Bath & Beyond. They, too, have just about everything you could ever need. This experience was a little awkward, because an employee was with us the entire time doing all the scanning. We got opinions and input constantly. The third registry was a last-minute decision –Target! I went in one day and fell in love with a cookbook holder. Soon I discovered several other items that I simply could not live without. Their scanners kept dying on me, though, so I didn’t spend much time on the registry in-store (I think David would be ok with me saying that I did this one on my own). All three of these registries have been tweaked and updated online, which has been much better than the experience in the store. You’d think it would be the opposite, but really it is so much easier just shopping on the computer. The only frustration has been that so many things have gone out of stock since we registered, so there have been a lot of changes to the list. I actually started two more registries online (Williams-Sonoma and The Container Store), but those are more non-essential items…which is why we didn’t publish them on the registry page of our website. I’m treating those two more like a shopping list. I actually got a gift off of my WS registry at one of my showers, and I was tickled pink!! Everyone has been so generous, and many people have gone off-registry to give David and me some amazing gifts. I definitely loved the whole process of registering, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t totally looking forward to registering for baby gifts one day.
